I can not tell you when I became an artist, art just seems to have always been a part of me, of who I am. Next to my husband and children, my art is what makes me feel most alive. However, there was a time that I didn’t think that I was ever going to have the opportunity to pursue my true passion. Becoming a mother at the age of 19, art took a back burner to a path that made me feel just as alive…being a mother. Now, 25 years later my husband and I are “Empty-Nesters” and I have the time to pursue that long-lost passion. I did not realize how badly I would be affected by my children leaving the nest and the deep feeling of loss that begin to consume my thoughts. I desperately needed something to fill that void and lo and behold, the door that seemed once closed forever had reopened.

I am a very spontaneous artist; that being I observe the beauty around me with fresh eyes that absorb every part of this beautiful southwest that I have adopted as home. I was not born in the Southwest but have strong family ties to this amazing, rich area. I am absolutely mesmerized by the bold, bright colors of this region that are reflected in the strong Hispanic Culture which is where I draw my inspiration, particularly the Spanish Colonial Era of New Mexico. For this reason I strive to capture as quickly and accurately as possible the visual sensations and inspirations around me, and transfer these images into my art.

With so many wonderful Southwestern Artist presenting the worthy, traditional styles, I decided I would not try to out do them in their own craft, but instead use the inspiration I received from their craft and take a different, contemporary approach. Thus Mosaic. Although I paint the “Santos” as traditionally is done on tin and pine, I go one step further and frame each piece entirely in mosaic. I explore different mediums and many times I use two or three styles in each piece. I also feel that to grow within my own craft, I must be in constant
transition, experimenting with different textures and themes.
